I dare say some have wondered where he has got to. Well, a little bit of bad news I'm afraid.

Dad has been having a lot of problems with his breathing this week, and unfortunately today because he had become so exhausted from it all, he got very bad to the point where he briefly slipped into unconsciousness. He was not breathing enough to clear the Carbon Dioxide, even though he was using the vent machine.

He is currently down at the hospital being looked after by the Critical Care Unit team, and has made a lot of improvement. They've x-rayed his chest and found he has a chest infection (suspected pneumonia) which is more serious because of the general breathing problems he normally has. They now have a tube down his throat which has made his breathing more comfortable and they've also managed to clear a fair bit of stuff from his lungs.

He's far more alert now, and gradually improving, but because it is so serious they're keeping him in for a few days. If anyone wants to pass any messages on to Dad, please just put them here and I'll make sure they get passed on.

Matt

Matt, I'm so glad you posted I must say my heart skipped a beat when I first saw your thread "BluePete" at first I dare not open the thread for the obvious reason all sorts was going through my mind. But glad I did read it in a way, thank you several of us if not all have been thinking and asking each other how your dad is doing.

Pete, hang in there I know you are a fighter, my thought's and prayers are with you right now as they always have been.
I hope you continue to improve and be back home before you know it.

Thinking of you love Jeannie xxx

Thanks for letting us know Matt,it must be a difficult time for you all and my thoughts are with you and your family.
As Jeannie said,we were quite concerned that we hadn't seen anything of your Dad or yourself recently and I must admit that my heart was in my throat as I opened the thread.

Pete,
Hang on in there,we are all thinking of you and hoping you'll be home and back with us soon.
Sharon sends her love and says to get better soon as you've got a tour to organize!
My thoughts and prayers are with you,my friend.
God Bless.

Matt,

Thanks for letting us know. I hope your dad has a speedy recovery and can join us again soon back in the thick of things. It's been a bit quieter without him around and we'll have a nice party in the chatroom on his return.

Matt,

I adore your dad. While racking my mind for a solution for Pete's respiratory distress I thought back to the recent article on Buspirone. I understand researchers hope to test this drug or similar types on acute respiratory trauma. One day they hope to do a trial with Buspirone and neural stem cells. Would Pete's doctors try Buspirone in an effort to relieve his distress?

"For the first time, Harvard researchers successfully tested an inexpensive, readily available class of drugs that has restored normalcy to rats who suffered the same loss of breath as humans who receive spinal cord injuries in combat, falls, car wrecks, or by gun or knife. These drugs include buspirone, a tranquilizer used to ease anxiety in the elderly and to help people quit smoking. "

""We would like to do experiments that combine the two drug types," Teng says. Minocycline might provide immediate protection of endangered nerves, while the buspirone-type medications would stimulate function in the spared nerves. These combinations, he points out, may be effective in a wide variety of diseases that affect movement including strokes, Lou Gehrig's disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and Parkinson's. "

Pete, please recover!
